Highlighting the Values of Scouting on Flickr.
As the Boy Scouts of America changes its membership policy to no longer discriminate against youth members on the basis of sexual orientation, we are reminded that pages 22-26 of The Boy Scout Handbook describe the organization’s values in detail.
In particular, a Scout’s “Duty to God” includes “defending the rights of others to practice their own beliefs,” and the definition of “morally straight” includes a reminder to “respect and defend the rights of all people.”
View the Boy Scouts of America’s official statement regarding the changes to their membership policy. Also see Daniel M. Reck’s previous discussion of the BSA policy against the BSA’s own principles.
